Syndicates
You may be familiar with one or two of our syndicate members. Jim's long-standing friendship with Irish International footballer Clive Clarke has led to the likes of former England stalwart Teddy Sheringham, West Ham stars Matthew Etherington, James Collins, Danny Gabbidon and Carl Fletcher as well as Coventry's Elliot Ward joined Irish Racing Shares' set-up. As top class footballers, they have a fair amount of disposable income to play with but at IRS we pride ourselves on providing a value-for-money service.
As the name might suggest, 'Hammers Boy' was owned by our group of West Ham players. 'Hammers Boy' was picked out at the sales by Fozzy Stack for just 25,000 guineas and his six races (two wins) netted more than £30,000.00 before he was sold at a handsome profit to Hong Kong. Better was to follow with 'Myboycharlie', who is named after Teddy Sheringham's son, a professional footballer himself and on the books at Crystal Palace. Bought for 54,000 guineas at the Doncaster St. Leger Yearling Sales, Myboycharlie made is racecourse debut in a maiden on the Irish Derby card at the Curragh where he won by three lengths.
A fortnight later, he was stepped up in class for the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes, a race that has been won in the past by legends of the game like 'Nijinsky'. 'Myboycharlie' was even more impressive than he had been in winning his maiden, taking the Anglesey by seven lengths.
Irish Racing Shares is not coy about the role played by betting in the overall enjoyment in the owning of a racehorse and 'Myboycharlie', though opposed by an Aidan O'Brien-trained hotpot on each occasion, was well backed. Perhaps because of the illustrious scalps 'Myboycharlie' had taken, the Coolmore Stud operation soon came calling. At Irish Racing Shares we buy horses to race and provide fun for their owners but after the Anglesey it became abundantly clear that this colt was a very valuable commodity with offers of purchase from all corners of the world.
With the full backing of the syndicate it was decided that an offer from Coolmore was too good to refuse and he was sold to the world-renowned Coolmore Stud operation. You don't have to be on a Premiership player's wages to enjoy owning horses, we can put syndicates together to suit any budget.
'Myboycharlie' was not a cheap purchase – he nonetheless turned out to be a real bargain – and we are confident we can unearth some more bargains for our clients. All our syndicates are open to the general public – it is simply a matter of first come, first served. What you can rely on is that the service you will get will be of Premiership quality.
In our experience, racing syndicates are starved of information from the supposed 'inner circle'. That couldn't be further from the truth at Irish Racing Shares. We will do all of the usual things expected of syndicates, like organizing stable visits, arranging complimentary race day tickets and paddock passes but we will keep you updated on the well being of your horse on a daily basis if you require. Such is the interest in the Irish Racing Shares horse like 'Myboycharlie' that we keep the public informed in a general sense, about the exploits of our horses and when they are going to run.
What we do for syndicate members is provide much more detailed updates on homework and gallops reports via the password-protected Members' Lounge on our website. Photographs of your horse in training will be updated here and in future we plan to upload actual homework on the gallops for you to watch without leaving the comfort of your armchair.
